Back-to-School, Back to Routine: 5 Tips for Easing Into a Healthier Schedule
Back to school, back to routine: 5 tips for easing into a healthier schedule
As the school year kicks off and the lazy, unpredictable days of summer fade, it’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed. Suddenly, your calendar is packed with school runs, work, extracurriculars, and more. But amidst all the busyness, it's so important to make time for yourself and build a routine that nourishes both body and mind. After all, setting aside even a little time for self-care can have a huge impact on your energy, mood, and overall wellness.
In this blog post, we’re diving into some of the best strategies for creating a solid, feel-good routine that includes—you guessed it—time for fitness. Whether you’re a morning person or prefer winding down with an evening class, these tips will help you fit that essential "me time" into your busy schedule.
1. Pre-book Your Classes and Commit to an Hour of ‘Me Time’
The first step in establishing a consistent routine is making a commitment to yourself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of “I’ll go if I have time” or “I’ll see how I feel tomorrow,” but the truth is, life is always going to feel busy. If you don’t carve out that hour for your fitness and well-being, something else will inevitably fill the space.
At Warehouse Spin & Fitness, we’re all about empowering you to prioritize yourself. One simple way to ensure you stay on track? Pre-book your classes. Whether it’s spin, barre, or a combo class, having it scheduled in advance means you’ve already made the decision to show up for yourself. It’s not something to negotiate with later—it’s already in your planner, your phone, and your mind.
Once your class is booked, commit to showing up, not just physically but mentally. Think of it as your sacred "me time." It’s a dedicated hour where you can step away from the stresses of daily life, recharge, and focus on your well-being. This time is for you, and you deserve it.
2. Find a Workout Buddy for Accountability
Starting a new routine or sticking to an existing one can be tough when you're going at it alone. It’s tempting to hit snooze on that early alarm or skip an evening class when you feel tired after a long day. That’s where a workout buddy comes in.
Having a fitness friend adds an extra layer of accountability and motivation. When you know someone is counting on you, it’s much harder to back out or make excuses. Plus, having a buddy brings a social element to your workouts, making the experience more enjoyable and giving you an extra reason to look forward to your class.
Not sure how to find a workout buddy? You don’t have to look far! At Warehouse Spin & Fitness, we’ve cultivated a welcoming community of people just like you—moms, working professionals, and fitness enthusiasts who are all trying to balance it all. Take a few moments to chat with fellow class-goers before or after your sessions. You might find a perfect accountability partner who is also looking for that extra motivation. Alternatively, bring a friend to class. (P.S. Don’t forget about our buddy pass perk for unlimited members!) Working out together makes the journey easier and more fun.
3. Prep the Night Before: Book Your Class, Lay Out Your Clothes, and Get Breakfast Ready
Ever feel like getting out the door in the morning is half the battle? Mornings can be chaotic, especially when you’re juggling kids, work, and a hundred other things before 9 AM. One of the best ways to set yourself up for success is by prepping the night before.
Here are a few tips to make sure your morning runs smoothly and you’re ready to tackle that workout:
- Pre-book your class: This goes beyond just making a mental note. Actually take the time the night before to reserve your spot in class. Knowing it’s booked and confirmed gives you that extra push to follow through.
- Lay out your workout clothes: It sounds simple, but it’s a game changer. By having your clothes, shoes, and any other gear ready to go, you eliminate those early-morning decisions that can slow you down or give you an excuse to bail.
- Get breakfast prepped: Whether you’re a smoothie lover or a quick oatmeal kind of person, prepping breakfast in advance can save valuable time and ensure you’re properly fueled for your workout. If you’re rushing out the door for an early class, even something as quick as overnight oats or a grab-and-go protein bar can do the trick.
The key here is reducing decision fatigue. The fewer things you have to figure out in the morning, the smoother your day will start, and the more likely you’ll follow through with your fitness goals.
4. Build Your Routine Gradually
We all love a good challenge, but it’s important to remember that routines are built over time. If you haven’t worked out consistently in a while, or if your summer schedule threw you off your game, give yourself some grace. You don’t have to jump into a six-day-a-week fitness regimen right away. Start with 2-3 classes per week and work your way up.
Listen to your body, celebrate the small wins, and focus on consistency rather than perfection. As the days and weeks go by, those 2-3 classes will become part of your regular schedule, and you’ll naturally begin to crave more movement. Before you know it, fitness will become a part of your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth.
5. Make It Fun and Celebrate Your Progress
One of the best parts of creating a routine is making it enjoyable. When you love what you’re doing, it doesn’t feel like a chore—it feels like something you get to do, not something you have to do.
At Warehouse Spin & Fitness, we strive to keep our classes fresh, fun, and challenging, so you never get bored. Whether it’s switching up the playlists, trying new moves, or participating in one of our theme classes, there’s always something to look forward to.
Finally, don’t forget to celebrate your progress. Whether it’s attending two classes in one week, hitting a personal record, or just feeling more energized throughout your day, those little wins add up. Take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come, and reward yourself for sticking to your routine.
6. Don’t Let Setbacks Deter You
No routine is perfect, and life happens. There will be days when you miss a class, days when your workout buddy cancels, or mornings when you can’t find the energy to get up and go. That’s okay! The important thing is not to let those moments derail your progress.
Give yourself grace and get back on track when you’re ready. One missed class doesn’t undo all the hard work you’ve put in. Routines are about consistency over time, not perfection every day. The more you stick to your plan, the easier it becomes to recover from setbacks and keep moving forward.
7. Join a Community That Supports Your Goals
At the end of the day, the best way to ensure you stick to your routine is by surrounding yourself with a community that supports you. We’re so proud of the strong, positive community we’ve built at Warehouse Spin & Fitness. Our classes are more than just a workout—they’re an opportunity to connect, empower, and grow alongside like-minded people.
From encouraging instructors to fellow members cheering you on, our studio is the perfect place to build a routine that feels sustainable and fun. We’re here to help you every step of the way, whether you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast or just starting out.
Conclusion
Getting back into a routine after a busy summer can feel daunting, but with the right strategies in place, it’s entirely doable—and even enjoyable! By pre-booking your classes, committing to an hour of "me time," prepping the night before, and leaning on accountability partners and a supportive community, you’ll set yourself up for success.
Remember, routines are built one day at a time. Be kind to yourself, have fun with the process, and celebrate every little step forward. Before you know it, you’ll be back in the groove and feeling stronger, healthier, and more energized than ever.
5 Spin Slip-Ups You Might Be Making
5 Spin Slip-Ups You Might Be Making
Hey there, spin squad! Ready to crank up the resistance and pedal your way to fitness glory? Before you hop on that bike for your next sweat sesh, let's chat about a few common mistakes that might be holding you back from crushing those spin classes like a boss. No worries, though - we've all been there, and I'm here to help you dial in your ride for maximum impact.
1. Bike Setup Woes
Let's start with the basics: your bike setup. Trust me, I get it - adjusting those seat heights and handlebars can feel like a whole workout in itself. But here's the deal: riding with a wonky setup can lead to all sorts of discomfort and even injuries down the road. So take a sec to make sure your seat height is on point (hint: a slight bend in the knees at the bottom of your pedal stroke is what you're aiming for), and check that your handlebars are within reach without making you feel like a pretzel. Your body will thank you, promise. We are always available to help you and can even make adjustments mid-class if you feel you need them, just give us a wave or yell.
TIP: Take a photo of your bike once its set up so you remember your numbers for next class
2. Resistance Rebellion
Raise your hand if you've ever been guilty of keeping that resistance dial at a cozy low setting to keep up that speedy pace. *Raises hand sheepishly* I've been there, too! But here's the scoop: cranking up the resistance isn't just about making your legs work harder - it's also about safety. So don't be afraid to add a little extra resistance to the mix and make sure you are in control of that fly wheel. Your muscles & joints will thank you later.
TIP: You are in control of that dial and if you need to take some off, that’s okay but please never ride with no resistance
3. Stretching Shortcuts
Picture this: you've just crushed an epic spin session, and all you want to do is collapse on the nearest couch. But wait - don't forget to stretch it out! Skipping the post-ride stretch sesh might seem like no biggie, but trust me, your muscles will thank you for the TLC. So take a few minutes to show those leg muscles some love with some gentle stretching after class and even a little more when you get home. Your body will bounce back quicker, and you'll be ready to tackle your next ride like a champ.
TIP: Feel free to stay after class and stretch more, take advantage of our yoga blocks, straps and foam rollers
4. Hydration Hustle
Spin class: the ultimate sweat fest. But here's the thing - all that sweating means your body is losing precious fluids and electrolytes faster than you can say "water break." So keep that hydration game strong by sipping on some H2O before, during, and after your ride. Pro tip: a reusable water bottle (if you are missing yours, check the lost & found at the studio, it may be here) is your BFF in the spin studio. Stay hydrated, stay energized, and slay those rides like the badass you are.
TIP: Adding a little lemon, cucumber or berries can make water a little more tasty. A pinch of sea salt also help replenish those electrolytes
5. Form Faux Pas
Last but not least, let's talk about form. I know, I know - it's easy to get caught up in the rhythm of the music and forget about your posture. But trust me when I say that proper form is key to getting the most out of your ride. Keep those shoulders relaxed, engage that core, and focus on smooth pedal strokes. And if you're not sure about your form, don't hesitate to ask your instructor for some pointers. They're there to help you crush it, after all.
TIP: Keep that chest proud, those hands light and that core engaged
So there you have it, spin fam - five common mistakes to watch out for in your next spin class. Remember, we're all a work in progress, so don't sweat the slip-ups. Just keep showing up, giving it your all, and enjoying the ride. You've got this!
Starting With Spin: Tips for First Timers
Starting with Spin: Tips for First Timers
Since March we have obviously had a lot of new riders at Warehouse Spin & Barre. So, if you're considering dipping your toes into the invigorating world of spin classes but feeling a bit apprehensive, worry not! Stepping into your first spin class is an exciting journey, and with a few essential tips and tricks, you'll not only feel confident but also set the stage for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Choosing the Right Class
The first step in your spin adventure is selecting the right class. The great thing about spin classes at Warehouse is you are in control the whole time. Our instructors are there to lead you through your class but as we always say, this is your class, so take what you need from it. When you are in a class you get to decide how much resistance to add, you decide if you sit or stand and you decide if you add the choreo or just pedal it out. As long as your legs are moving you are part of the class! Remember it takes about 5-7 classes to really get into the groove of spin, so our 2 week unlimited intro offer is a great way to get comfortable on the bike.
Wear Comfortable Clothing
Spinning involves a combination of seated and standing positions, so wearing comfortable clothing is crucial. Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics that keep you cool and dry. A well-fitted pair of athletic shorts or leggings and a breathable top will ensure you stay comfortable throughout the class. Don't worry about shoes, we have spin shoes you can borrow in the studio, but if you have your own spin shoes feel free to bring them.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Spin classes can be intense, and you'll work up a good sweat. Staying hydrated is key to maintaining your energy levels and getting the most out of your workout. Bring a water bottle with you and take sips throughout the class. At warehouse we have a water fountain to keep those bottles filled, as well as a small selection of pre-workout and BCAAs you can also use.
Adjusting Your Bike Properly
Proper bike setup is crucial for a comfortable and effective spin session. When you arrive early for your first class, ask the instructor for assistance in adjusting your bike. Ensure the seat is at hip height when you stand next to it, and the handlebars are at a comfortable distance, typically aligned with the seat or slightly higher. A well-adjusted bike prevents discomfort and helps you maintain proper form during the workout. We are always here to help, so if something doesn’t feel right let us know and we will make it right.
Understand Resistance Levels
Spin bikes come with a resistance knob that adjusts the difficulty of your ride. As a beginner, it's essential to understand how to use this feature effectively. The resistance adds intensity to your workout, simulating the feeling of climbing hills or sprinting on a flat road. As you go through your class, the instructor will cue you on when to add in or dial back, they will give you feeling cues to make sure you stay safe on that bike. One key tip to remember, the dial is like a pizza or a pie, you don’t want to take the whole thing, just little slices, so don’t feel like you need to do full turns.
Listen to Your Body
During your first spin class, it's natural to feel a mix of excitement and challenge. Listen to your body and don't be afraid to modify the intensity if needed. If the resistance feels too high, or you need a break, simply reduce the resistance or take a seated position to catch your breath. The key is to push yourself within your limits and gradually build endurance over time. As instructors we don’t know how you feel, so always listen to your body first and us second and give it your best. Don’t compare your class 1 to someone else’s class 50.
Focus on Form
Maintaining proper form is crucial in spin classes to prevent strain and maximize the effectiveness of the workout. Keep your core engaged, shoulders relaxed, and grip the handlebars lightly. Pay attention to the instructor's cues on body positioning, and visualize a smooth pedal stroke for optimal efficiency. Good form not only enhances your performance but also reduces the risk of discomfort or injury.
Immerse Yourself in the Experience
Spin classes often incorporate energizing music, motivating instructors, and a vibrant atmosphere. Immerse yourself in the experience by letting the music drive your pedal strokes and following the instructor's cues. The dynamic environment of a spin class is designed to keep you engaged and motivated. Embrace the energy in the room, and let it fuel your determination. Think of it as a party on a bike or a healthier version of a night club and just have FUN!
Don't Fear the Jargon
In spin classes, you might hear terms like "sprints," "jumps," or "climbs." Don't be intimidated by the jargon. These are simply variations in the workout designed to target different muscle groups and keep the session dynamic. As a first-timer, focus on getting comfortable with the basics, and don't hesitate to ask the instructor for clarification if needed. Always remember that if something doesn’t feel right, ditch it, get the legs first and then worry about the variations.
Post-Class Recovery
After your first spin class, take a few minutes to cool down and stretch. Stretching helps prevent muscle tightness and enhances flexibility. Hydrate well and nourish your body with a balanced post-workout snack or meal. It's normal to feel a bit sore after your first few sessions, but as your body adapts to the workout, this discomfort will decrease. Sorry to tell you, your butt will hurt after the first couple classes, but we promise it gets better!
Celebrate Your Achievements
Completing your first spin class is a significant achievement. Celebrate the fact that you took the initiative to try something new and challenging. Reflect on how you felt during the class and acknowledge any improvements in your stamina and endurance. Every spin class is a step forward, and with consistency, you'll continue to progress on your fitness journey. We are always there to celebrate with you as well! We love to cheer you on.
